Final Lower Hull Fitting
All I can say is that the fit is perfect, and now to the paint shop for priming of the lower hull interior and chassis, engine, drive train, and wheel assemblies.

Steps 9-15
Lower Hull Assembly

These steps included the complete construction of the Lower Hull. These steps went pretty easy, and I love the small PE parts on the front driver’s panel. When installing the front driver compartment,I noticed a gap between the front and left sides of the hull where the compartment/seat assembly was located. So what I did was close the gap to butt against the outer panels. In doing this if found this to be an error on my part, because when adding the seat assemblies in,they didn’t align up with locating points,so I had to adjust the seats so this would be corrected. Otherwise everything else was a joy.

Construction Steps 5-7

In step 5, it was the assembly of the front axle and suspension, this went together nicely.

In Step 6 the front suspension assembly was installed to the chassis.I had to sand the ends down a little so it would fit nice and snug. Next was the gearbox and steering assembly, which was no problem.

Step 7 involves the construction of the the rear chassis plate which has the large inside tow hitch housing as well as the outer standard half-track tow hitch. I found it much easier to put parts A12 and A13 in after the plate and housing was on. Next was the road wheels, idler wheels and outer front drive sprocket. There is a lot of play with the idler wheels on the torsion bar suspension. Otherwise these steps were pretty straightforward. However there are a lot of small, thin, fragile parts that can be damaged when installing these subassemblies

Construction Step 4

Engine being added to the frame. The only procedures of this step was the fitting of the engine on to the frame and the two exhaust systems. In the case of the engine, there was a little bit of sanding the ends of the motor mounts for it to fit right. No biggie, I had to be very careful to wrap the exhaust systems in and around the chassis. Otherwise everything went well, without any hitch.

The Maybach HL 85 TUKRM engine came together quite nicely although the large radiator is not included. Also the transmission assembly was nicely fitted together.

The drive sprocket modification for the correct offset of the drive teeth, was an issue. The rollers on all German half-tracks were offset towards the front (left and right sides) of the flat track pad section of the sprocket to allow the roller to intermesh with the tracks correctly. This is quite easy to fix by just cutting off the locating tabs on the inside of the separate tooth rings (parts B22) and fit with the rollers aligned correctly for the right and left side sprockets.

Assembly of the chassis is straightforward, I had to glue each of the channels and cross members to one side frame first and then add the other frame, this is easier than trying to balance all the parts while fitting the two side frames together. The only thing to watch is that the chassis is perfectly square before the glue dries but due to the size this shouldn’t be a problem.
